I am a Lead Collaborative Teacher for the Pembina Hills Regional Division. In this role, I facilitate and lead the professional collaborations among teachers and support their application of universal design for learning and differentiated instruction. My dedication towards technology is integral in this role as various technologies can often break barriers that students have pertaining to learning. Whether a student struggles with reading, writing, seeing, or communicating, technology can often provide a solution. I am currently working towards my Masters of Education in Educational Technology through the University of Alberta .
I have found integrating technology into the classroom to be a great passion of mine. My career has allowed me to work with a wide range of students from kindergarten through to grade nine. I have had the benefit of being the Technology Lead in all schools I have worked for and have organized numerous technology challenge groups and after school technology clubs. I am often found leading after-school and jurisdictional professional development on various educational technologies, which include: smartboards, iPads, digital portfolios, class website creation, digital citizenship and more.
In my classroom, I used tools like Twitter, Skype and student blogs to connect my students with the world. By using tools like these with my class, I gave my students the opportunity to learn about being responsible digital citizens. Through daily teachable moments that arose in my class we discussed digital citizenship and students created a positive digital footprint of their own.
